To celebrate the Cannes 2024 Festival of Creativity, Google gave its delgates a pocket sundial gift from Austrian watch brand - Kala Sundial. Time provides a framework for understanding the human experience. Whether it is relative or constant, perceptual or not, AI’s creative capabilities evolve over time as it learns from more data and improves its algorithms. Just like humans, AI creativity can be influenced by time constraints, affecting the quality and nature of its creative processes.

To celebrate the launch of Google’s new Gemini AI, we put its creativity to the test and asked it to generate several creative poems that capture the current juncture of AI’s place within the world, a very pertinent theme at the 2024 festival.

We printed the results on the packaging using white foil embossing over a holographic mirror board, which constantly changed and reflected it’s environment through colours, echoing AI’s learning approach through data and input.
